BPO Zoom Performance

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - It would seem to be an impossible collaboration. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra giving a virtual performance with Zoom as the venue. Over 50 members of the orchestra performing separately, yet together.

The virtual meeting site has become a lifeline for musicians and artists during the coronavirus pandemic.

The BPO, under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, performing The Firebird from an Igor Stravinsky ballet and orchestral concert of the same name. This work was first performed in late June of 1910 at the Opéra de Paris.

On an interesting note: one of the most acclaimed recordings of the complete ballet was done in 1998 by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra - under the direction of former BPO conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
