January 10, 2019

The other day, I saw a cool thing going around Facebook. You post a song each day for 30 days to help people get to know you better. Well, I don't have the attention span to do something for 30 days so I decided to compile them all into one list right here for your viewing (and listening) pleasure.

Song you like with a color in the title: Stroke 9- "Little Black Backpack"

Song you like with number on the title: Green Day- "80"

Going back to the pre-'Dookie' days of 'Kerplunk' for one of my favorite Green Day tunes

Song that reminds you of summertime: Sublime- "Doin' Time (Summertime)"

I think this one is pretty self explanatory

A song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget: Eminem- "Puke"

Another one that needs no explanation

A song that needs to be played loud: Limp Bizkit- Break Stuff

Yet again, another song that needs no explanation (I'm starting to notice a trend...)

A song that makes you want to dance: DMX- "Party Up (Up In Here)"

A song to drive to: Papa Roach- "Blood Brothers"

I've always envisioned this song being used for a chase or race scene in a movie

A song about drugs or alcohol: Smile Empty Soul- "Bottom Of A Bottle"

A song that makes you happy: Masked Intruder- Running From The Cops

I probably could have picked any song from this band!

A song that makes you sad: Creed- "One"

Before you judge me for including a Creed song on this list, this one is personal to me. I was 14 and it was the morning after the Columbine school shooting and the local Alt station I grew up on was playing sound clips of survivors and news reports with this song playing under it. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about how powerful it was

A song you never get tired of: System of a Down- "Sugar"

Yep, never gonna get tired of this one

A song from your preteen years: Pennywise- "Perfect People"

I remember having this song on a mixtape my sister made me when I was about 9-10 years old. Also included on said mixtape were Green Day and The Offspring (gee, I wonder how I ended up loving punk music so much?)

A song you like from the 70s: The Ramones- Teenage Lobotomy

A song you’d love to be played at your wedding: Green Day- "Last Night On Earth"

I am already married but I didn't have a large wedding/reception because we got married at town halll in a tiny ceremony. Had we had a "traditional" wedding, this is the song I would want played because it's my favorite band, but also because it's one of a couple of songs we consider "our song"

A song you like that’s a cover by another artist: Me First and The Gimmie Gimmies/Sinead O’Connor- Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince)

I had to put both cover versions on here. When I was about 3 years old, Sinead O'Connor's cover (an original at the time written by Prince) of "Nothing Compares 2 U" came out and it was my jam! Then when I got to high school, I discovered Me First And The Gimmie Gimmies and their cover of it and was blown away. Below are the two covers and Prince's original version (which only got released last year but was recorded in 1984, before Sinead O'Connor's version came out)

A song that’s a classic favorite: Queen- "Bohemian Rhapsody"

A song you’d sing a duet with someone on karaoke: Grease- Summer Love

I have in fact done this at karaoke. But when I do it, I do the NSFW bar version with dirty words and innuendos

A song from the year you were born: Ray Parker Jr.- "Ghostbusters"

A song that makes you think about life: The Offspring- "The Kids Aren’t All Right"

A song that has many meanings to you: Green Day- "She"

This is one of those songs for me that seems to mean different things at different times and i don't quite know why. It's also one of my top 3 favorite Green Day songs of all time. Maybe even #1

A song you like with a person’s name in the title: Lustra- "Scotty Doesn't Know"

There's an infinite number of songs with a persons name in it, but this one always makes me laugh

A song that moves you forward: Cake- "The Distance"

A song you think everyone should listen to

Rage Against The Machine- Know Your Enemy (honorable mention System of a Down- Prison Song)

It's uncanny how relavent this song from Rage Against The Machine is when it was written over 25 years ago. Same can be said for System of a Down's "Prison Song" which is relavent depsite being released 18 years ago (I feel old now). I've posted the lyric videos for these 2 songs because the lyrics are powerful and important

A song by a band you wish were still together: The Beatles- "HELP!"

A song you like from an artist no longer living: The Doors- "The End"

A song that makes you want to fall in love: Blink 182- "Josie"

This song is relationship goals (OMG look how young they are in this video. And NO TRAVIS YET!)

A song that breaks your heart: Linkin Park- "Given Up"

I've always been a fan of this song and how it's nice to feel like someone relates to you when you are in a low point, but after the suicide of Chester Bennington, this one is so tragic to listen to. The pain in his voice is that much clearer and real. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it. RIP Chester

A song by an artist whose voice you love: Nirvana- "About A Girl (Unplugged)"

Kurt Cobain is one of the most underrated vocalists in my humble opinion. The rasp and emotion in his tone was unreal. This unlpugged set really highlighted that side of his voice

A song you remember from your childhood: Kris Kross- "Jump" (honorable mention LL Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out")

A song that reminds you of yourself: Good Charlotte- "The Anthem"

This is me in a nut shell. "This is the anthem. Throw all your hands up!"
